Presentation Guidelines

Poster Presentations

  • Posters must adhere to a 36in x 48in presentation foam board. Boards may be oriented horizontally or vertically
  • Guidelines for creating a poster
  • Submit to the library Media Center via the Media Services Student File Upload bottom of the library webpage; the files are often too large for email.
    • Submit poster no later than two days before the date it is needed
    • Posters cost approximately $15 (click here for details)
    • Use push pins to adhere posters to board
    • Presenters should expect to attend their posters for the full length of the session
    • Be prepared to give a 2 min. summary to your audience

Oral Presentations

  • 15 minutes (12 minutes to speak and 3 minutes for questions) – Be sure to practice timing!
  • Classroom setting with presenter at the front of the room
  • A computer and projector will be available
  • Show up at the start of the session to load any audiovisual presentation on the desktop
  • Tips on preparing oral presentations:


  • Special arrangements for performances and exhibits are made on a case by case basis; participants should communicate their space, time, and equipment needs. Contact Dr. Joanne Altman to identify what you need.
    • Exhibits
      • Visual arts exhibits will be displayed during the poster session and artists are expected to attend their work for the full length of the session to talk about their work and creation experience
    • Performances
      • Performances may be up to 12 minutes with three additional minutes allotted for questions
      • Students must submit a link to a URL or attach an MP3 or WAV file containing the full work
